Make yourself comfortable… that’s it… close your eyes when you’re ready… take a few deep breaths… allow your whole body to relax… on it’s own.. you know how to do this… just give into it… with each breath out… and back in… you are becoming more relaxed … and more relaxed…. nice and easy…. 

(pause) 

In your mind’s eye… you can see … or pretend you can see … it doesn’t matter … like you’re watching a TV show … or a movie … that you have created … in your mind… beautiful, flowing images … in colour…. and beautiful sounds…. it’s all very safe… and in that safe, colourful world … you find yourself … in a small but special building… you are on the top floor of this building … and you can see out if you want … but what captures your attention right now … is a moving staircase … in front of you …  not a metallic one like you might usually expect to see … but a flowing, beautiful staircase … of your own design… a special, magical staircase .. create this staircase now… make it how you want it to be … colours … materials… how it feels to touch it …does it have rails or not? … That’s up to you… create it now… 

(pause) 

Now you take the first step … onto your moving staircase … your beautiful, special, staircase… it sure feels magical… to step onto it … and now it’s taking you down… to another part of your building … to a lower floor … and another floor… and as each floor glides past your field of vision … you sink deeper … and deeper … into a state of beautiful relaxation … another floor goes past… more relaxed with each floor … and again … (pause) … and again 

Now you can see your destination in front of you … it’s a small but enticing room … it’s like you might expect … in a special, magical scene like this … like it’s from a fantasy story … or a special book you read once… in three floors you will be there … more deeply relaxed with each floor … three … two … one.. and here you are … 

In this small room .. this welcoming room … you see … (pause) … a device… on a pedestal… just at a height where you can reach it easily … and so you do… and this device … controls the frequency of your brainwaves … allows you to tune them further into an even deeper state than before … notice how the device looks … the colours of it … the shape of it … you touch the device … it feels nice to touch it … safe … and you see that it is showing … your current brainwave frequency… about 10 Hz… a nice state to be in… but you want more relaxation … a deeper way of being… so you turn the dial slowly… to the left … turning it down … 

Your destination is 5hz …. 5 cycles per second … complete and safe relaxation … you gently move the dial from 10 to 9 … your whole body relaxes further … now 8 … all other thoughts are going away … leaving just you … and peace … now 7 …another drop into deeper relaxation… and 6 … nearly there… you have almost tuned your brain waves …. to the best… most relaxed state they can be in … and 5 … totally relaxed

Influences: I wanted a variation on the usual staircases and elevators, so I made an escalator without calling it that, and brought in some imagery and reinforcement. I also like the brainwave frequency adjustment idea, which I haven’t used much in my practice, so I made that my deepener. I’ve personally practised with flocking, eye pressure and  eye catalepsy and am not a big fan. Neither are my practise clients!  However, they’re not all that bad, and might be fun occasionally. I much prefer the eyes closed and imagery as the therapist or the client.
